Rockin' the Boardwalk

Virginia Beach, VA

1st Day: Join us as we make our way to Virginia Beach, VA for a Rockin' good time.  We'll check into our hotel for a three-night stay.  Tonight's big event is the Beach Boys Boardwalk Bash. Wear your colorful shirts and dresses, flip flops, muumuus, sunglasses, beach hats, and get in the mood.  Enjoy the food - a plated Beach Bum dinner, a healthy meal with a chicken dish, vegetables and delicious dessert. This themed party, a California blend of dinner and dancing, starts the night right. After dinner, we will delight in the large dance floor, listening to a great tribute band by the name of Still Surfin' playing the Best of the Beach Boys. Whether you dance or just watch, it's a night of great excitations. You'll be feeling those "Good, good, good vibrations” as you listen to such classics as "California Girls," "Surfer Girl," "Little Deuce Coupe," and "I Get Around." For many people this is a night of youthful nostalgia, memories of Beach Movies and Sock Hops. For others it's a chance to hear the musical harmonies of another generation. It's a night with a show band, a dance floor and a creative menu. What's not to like? (D)

2nd Day: After breakfast at the hotel and a leisurely morning, we'll depart for Norfolk, VA for a Luncheon Cruise along the Elizabeth River. Enjoy freshly prepared buffet-style lunch with a sampling of flavors that will satisfy all tastes. The cruise departs downtown Norfolk and offers great views along the Elizabeth River Waterfront, including the location of the first battle between ironclad ships: The Monitor & Merimac, plus the Norfolk Naval Base home port for the Atlantic Fleet and its 125 vessels including nuclear submarines and aircraft carriers. We return to Virginia to enjoy a free evening on the Boardwalk. You’ll find a variety of quaint outdoor restaurants and vendors offering bike and surrey rentals. Dinner is on your own this evening. 3rd Day: This morning, we will visit The Mariners’ Museum, connecting people to the world’s waters, because through the waters we are connected to one another. The Museum is filled with fascinating stories, captured in priceless artifacts that celebrate the spirit of the open sea. It is one of the largest and most comprehensive maritime museums in the world. We depart the museum and head to the Old Point Comfort Lighthouse. Located at Fort Monroe in Hampton, VA, the lighthouse is owned and maintained by the U.S. Coast Guard and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is not open to the public, but it can be viewed from the street. It is the second oldest lighthouse in the bay and the oldest still in use. There are other historic sites at Fort Monroe that you’ll also be able to visit if you wish.  On the way back to Virginia Beach, we will visit two lighthouses located within Fort Story, an active military base. The original Cape Henry Lighthouse is the 4th oldest lighthouse in the country, and it was the first lighthouse authorized by the U.S. government. In 1881, a newer lighthouse was constructed 350 feet from the original. The original lighthouse is open to the public and has an unimpeded coastal view that can be enjoyed from the 360-degree lantern room. (You can climb the tower for an $8 fee.) The newer lighthouse is owned by the Coast Guard and is not open to the public. After our visits, we will make our way back to the VA Beach area for another evening of entertainment.  Tonight our feature is a great Italian Dinner followed by another marvelous music show by “Let’s Hang On!” - a 10-person stage show featuring a live band, who preserve the music and style of the iconic 60s group, “Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons.” Voted America’s #1 Frankie Valli Tribute Show!
